The Story

In February of 1996 Pastor and Mrs. Mitchell came from Stockton, CA to begin a new church in the Northern Virginia area.  Capital Community Church opened in Reston, VA on Easter Sunday, 2006 in the Neil Armstrong Elementary School.  There were forty people in attendance at that first service.

Every Sunday the people of CCC transformed a school cafeteria into an inviting house of worship.  During the first few years at the Neil Armstrong Elementary School, many people came and experienced Christ in a beautiful and personal way.  Early on in the life of our church, we determined that we would focus on three things as a church and this would become our purpose for existence:

Bringing Them In...Growing Them Up...Sending Them Out...
All To The Glory Of God!

We bring people to Christ; He draws them, we invite.  We help them grow in Christ through discipleship and ministry.  We send them out into the world to share the Good News of what Christ has done for them.  What a wonderful way to ensure we are fulfilling the Great Comission!

From the very beginning, Pastor Mitchell made clear the vision God had given him for CCC and the dream began to unfold.  Immediately plans were made to purchase land and Pastor Mitchell came before the church and presented the "Building the Dream" stewardship campaign.  As we began to pray and invest financially into peoples lives and into the church, we were amazed at how quickly the dream progressed.

In 1999, we purchased five acres of land in Ashburn, VA.  It is a beautiful piece of property and a prime location for our church.  The first service in the new building in Ashburn Village was held in March of 2002 and what a celebration we had.  During the first year in our new building the church doubled and the growth continues today.

God has taken us on a journey that has been amazing and never ending.  When our sanctuary filled up, we added a second Sunday morning service.  As the church continued to grow, we quickly realized that we were going to need more land, so a 12 acre piece of property was purchased down Ashburn Village Blvd. about two miles from the current facility.  Our plans are to eventualy build there, but due to the fact that we need more immediate space in our children's ministry, we are currently in the design phase of "Live The Adventure for Kids" which will focus on a large addition to our current building.  The new kids space will be an amazing combination of adventure, fun and a comfortable place for a large number of kids to experience Christ on a personal level.

Two passionate people with a God-sized vision has grown to over 500+ people worshiping every Sunday and a church that ministers to thousands in Northern Virginia. We are excited to see what God has in store for us in the future.
